Albert Mazibuko

January 1, 1949 - April 6, 2026 (Age 77)

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Albert Mazibuko, born January 1st, 1949, and peacefully departed this life on April 6th, 2026. Albert was so much more than just a member of the legendary Ladysmith Black Mambazo; he was a vibrant spirit, a kind soul, and a cherished friend to so many. Growing up on a farm in Ladysmith, surrounded by family and the beauty of the South African landscape, instilled in him a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures. He was the second of six children, a big brother who always had a story to tell and a warm hug to offer. I’ll never forget the time he tried to teach my dog, Lucky, to sing – it was a hilarious disaster, but Albert’s infectious laughter made it all worthwhile. He had a mischievous twinkle in his eye and a genuine warmth that drew people to him. Albert’s life was undeniably enriched by his incredible musical journey with Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Being a part of such a globally recognized and respected group was a true honor, and he poured his heart and soul into every performance. Beyond the stage, Albert possessed a deep love for traditional music and a profound connection to his heritage. He found immense joy in sharing the beauty of Zulu culture through his singing, and he always approached each performance with reverence and passion. He wasn't just singing; he was telling stories, connecting with audiences on a deeply emotional level, and preserving a vital part of South African history. His family was the cornerstone of his life. He loved his siblings fiercely, always offering support and encouragement. He cherished his role as a brother, a son, and a friend. He had a gift for making everyone around him feel seen and valued. He was the kind of person who would always lend a helping hand, offer a listening ear, and celebrate the good times with unrestrained joy. Albert’s impact extended far beyond the music world; he touched the lives of countless people with his generosity, his kindness, and his unwavering spirit. Albert is survived by his siblings Nontukuzo, Nelisiwe, Kholiwe, Milton, and Abednego, and a whole host of friends and admirers who will forever remember him with love and respect. He will be deeply missed, but his music, his spirit, and the memories we shared will continue to resonate in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Albert. Your song will forever play on.
