Ariosto Holanda
January 1, 1939 - March 25, 2026 (Age 87)
It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to Ariosto. Born on January 1st, 1939, he truly lived a life full of purpose, passion, and a whole lot of love. Most people knew him as a dedicated politician, serving the people of Brazil as a deputy for over two decades – a commitment he took incredibly seriously. But for those of us lucky enough to know him personally, he was so much more than that. He was a storyteller, a jokester, and the warmest, most generous soul you could ever meet. I remember countless evenings at his home in Fortaleza, filled with laughter, strong coffee, and his booming voice recounting tales of his childhood and the early days of his career. He had a knack for making everyone feel like they were the most important person in the room.
Ariosto’s love for his family was the cornerstone of his life. He adored his wife, and spoke of her with such tenderness, even after all these years. He was a proud father and grandfather, always eager to hear about their adventures and offer advice – whether asked for or not! He’d beam with pride watching his grandchildren, always encouraging them to pursue their dreams, just as he encouraged everyone he met. He wasn’t a man for grand gestures, but his love was woven into the everyday: a phone call just to check in, a handwritten note of encouragement, a perfectly timed silly joke to lighten the mood.
Beyond politics, Ariosto found joy in the simple things. He loved a good debate, a challenging chess game, and tending to his garden. He had an incredible green thumb and took immense pride in the vibrant flowers and lush plants that surrounded his home. He believed in the power of community and was always involved in local initiatives, quietly working to make Fortaleza a better place. He wasn’t interested in accolades or recognition; he just wanted to make a difference.
Ariosto left us on March 25th, 2026, at the age of 87, leaving a void that will be impossible to fill. He touched so many lives with his kindness, his integrity, and his unwavering belief in the good of people. He taught us the importance of service, the power of laughter, and the enduring strength of family. We will miss his stories, his smile, and his warm embrace. He may be gone, but his spirit will live on in all of us who were fortunate enough to have known and loved him.
