Bagi Kumar Verma
January 1, 1949 - May 13, 2026 (Age 77)
Bagi Kumar Verma — or "Bagi Sahab," as so many of us knew him — left this world on 11 May 2026, but the warmth of his presence is something none of us will ever forget. He was born in 1949, a time of new beginnings for a young nation, and somehow, he carried that spirit of hope with him his entire life. If you ever sat with him long enough — and believe me, he loved a good conversation over a cup of chai — you'd walk away feeling like the most important person in the room. He had that rare gift of making everyone feel seen, from the highest official in Patna to the farmer in Kurtha who needed someone to listen.
Bagi Sahab gave his life to the people of Bihar. He served as a Member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly for three terms — twice from Makhdumpur and once from Kurtha — and he wore the responsibility of being a minister in the Government of Bihar not as a badge of power, but as a promise to every family that had placed their trust in him. Politics, for him, was never about politics. It was about people. He would often say that a constituency isn't just a place on a map — it's a collection of lives, each one deserving of dignity. Whether he was fighting for better roads, standing beside a struggling farmer, or quietly helping a family in crisis, he did it with a sincerity that couldn't be faked. He crossed party lines in his career, from RJD to JDU, and while some questioned those moves, anyone who truly knew him understood — his loyalty was never to a party symbol but to the people he served.
At home, he was a different kind of leader. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a grandfather whose eyes lit up every time the younger ones came running. He taught his children the value of hard work, humility, and standing up for what's right — even when it's not easy. Family gatherings at his home were never complete without him telling old stories, laughing loudly, and insisting that everyone eat just one more plate. His kitchen was always open, his door was always unlocked, and his heart was always full — not of material things, but of love and connection.
The villages of Makhdumpur and Kurtha will feel quieter without him. The halls of the Bihar Vidhan Sabha will feel emptier. But Bagi Kumar Verma's legacy lives in every life he touched, every hand he extended, and
