Busk Margit Jonsson

It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to our beloved Margit. Born on January 1st, 1930, and leaving us far too soon on April 28th, 2026, she filled our lives with a joy and beauty that will echo forever. Most people knew her as Busk Margit Jonsson, the incredible Swedish soprano who graced opera houses around the world. But to us, she was simply Mom, Grandma, Auntie Margit – a woman with a laugh that could fill a room and a heart even bigger. I remember as a little girl, sneaking into her practice room and just listening, mesmerized, as she effortlessly hit those soaring high notes. She’d always stop and wink at me, pretending to be annoyed but secretly delighted I was there, soaking it all in. She had this mischievous twinkle in her eye, a playful spirit that never faded, even after decades on the stage. Margit’s passion for music was undeniable, but her love for her family was even greater. She was the glue that held us all together, always ready with a warm hug, a comforting word, or a plate of her famous Swedish meatballs. She cherished her relationships, and her home was always open to anyone who needed a place to belong. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, showering them with love and encouragement. She instilled in us a love of art, a respect for tradition, and the importance of kindness. She was fiercely proud of each and every one of us, celebrating our successes and offering unwavering support during challenging times. Beyond the opera, Margit found joy in the simple things: tending to her garden, reading a good book (usually something historical!), and spending time with her friends. She loved a good cup of coffee and a lively conversation, and she always had a story to tell. She travelled the world, experiencing different cultures and broadening her horizons, but she always returned home, to the people she loved most. Her voice may have silenced, but the melodies she created, and the love she shared, will resonate within us always. We will miss her terribly – her warmth, her wit, her unwavering optimism. Margit leaves behind a legacy of beauty, grace, and boundless love. She touched so many lives with her talent and her generosity, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Rest peacefully, dear Margit. You were, and always will be, our shining star.
