Born in 1933, Cabell wasn't just a bishop; he was a beacon of kindness, a man who radiated warmth and genuine interest in everyone he met. I’ll always remember his infectious laugh, the twinkle in his eye when he was sharing a story, and the way he could make you feel instantly comfortable, no matter how you were feeling. He had a knack for finding the good in people – and in situations – and that was a gift he generously shared with all of us. Cabell’s dedication to his faith was unwavering, of course, and his time as Bishop of Delaware from 1986 to 1997 was a testament to his leadership and compassion. But beyond the official role, he was a deeply caring man. He had a particular fondness for, and often told us stories about. He found immense joy in simple things – a beautiful sunrise, a good conversation, the feeling of helping others. What truly set Cabell apart was his ability to connect with people on a human level. He wasn't afraid to be vulnerable, to share his own struggles and triumphs, and to offer a listening ear without judgment.
