Cho Sang-rae

It is with heavy hearts, but also with an overwhelming sense of gratitude, that we say goodbye to our beloved Cho Sang-rae, who passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, at the age of 89. To the world, he was a dedicated public servant and a Member of the National Assembly, but to us, he was simply Sang-rae—the man with the infectious laugh, the steady hands, and a heart that seemed to have infinite room for everyone he met. Sang-rae lived through eras of immense change, and he carried the weight of his responsibilities with a quiet, unshakable dignity. During his years in the National Assembly from 1981 to 1988, he worked tirelessly for the future of our country, always guided by a deep sense of justice and a genuine desire to help his neighbors. Yet, no matter how busy his political life became, he never let his passion for people fade. He had this incredible way of making you feel like the only person in the room, listening with an intensity that made you feel truly heard and understood. Beyond the halls of government, Sang-rae found his greatest joys in the simplest moments. He was a man who loved the rhythm of a long walk, the quiet peace of a morning tea, and the stories shared around a crowded dinner table. He was most at home when surrounded by his family, acting as our North Star through every storm. He taught us that true strength isn't found in loud declarations, but in the consistency of showing up for the people you love. Whether he was offering sage advice or simply sharing a joke that made us all smile, his presence was our greatest comfort. His legacy isn't just in the laws he helped shape or the political milestones he reached; it is in the kindness he planted in all of us. He leaves behind a family that adored him and a community that is better because he walked among us. We will miss his wisdom, his warmth, and the way his eyes crinkled when he smiled. Rest well, Sang-rae. You lived a life of purpose, and you loved us with everything you had. You will be missed every single day.
