Dan Wall
January 1, 1954 - April 15, 2026 (Age 72)
It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to Dan. Our Dan Wall, born January 1, 1954, left us far too soon on April 15, 2026. He was a force of nature, a whirlwind of music and laughter, and the kind of person who could light up a room just by walking into it. I’ll always remember the time he tried to teach me the blues on a ukulele – it was a disaster, but he was so patient and encouraging, and we were both cracking up the whole time. That was Dan – always finding joy in the simple things, and always wanting to share it with others. He had this incredible ability to make you feel seen, to really *hear* you, and to make you feel like the most important person in the world.
Dan was, of course, a phenomenal musician. A jazz organist and pianist through and through, his fingers danced across the keys with a passion that was infectious. He dedicated his life to the music he loved, sharing his gift with the world as a performer and a professor. He poured his heart and soul into every note, and anyone who ever had the pleasure of hearing him play knew they were witnessing something special. But beyond the accolades and the impressive career, he was simply Dad, Uncle Dan, and a cherished friend. He adored his family – his children, his siblings, his nieces and nephews – and his love for them was evident in everything he did. He was the guy who always showed up, the one who offered a listening ear and a warm hug, the one who made every gathering feel complete.
Music wasn't his only joy, though. Dan loved a good book, a lively debate, and a perfectly brewed cup of coffee. He was a collector of quirky things, a lover of old movies, and a surprisingly skilled gardener (though his tomatoes were always a bit wonky!). He found beauty in the everyday, and he taught us all to do the same. He had a mischievous twinkle in his eye and a quick wit that could disarm anyone. He wasn’t afraid to be himself, and he encouraged everyone around him to do the same.
Dan leaves behind a legacy of music, laughter, and love. He touched so many lives with his kindness, his generosity, and his unwavering spirit. He will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, his students, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. We’ll miss his smile, his stories, and the way he made the world a little brighter. Rest easy, Dan. Your music will live on.
