Dash Crofts

January 1, 1939 - March 28, 2026 (Age 87)

Darrell George “Dash” Crofts, born January 1st, 1939, slipped away on March 28th, 2026, leaving a silence in the world that feels utterly wrong. It’s hard to believe he’s really gone. I met Dash back in the late 60s, a whirlwind of a guy with a grin that could light up a room and a drum kit that practically vibrated with energy. We were both chasing a dream – music – and that’s how it all started with Jim Seals, a saxophonist with a cool head and a beautiful sound. We jammed with The Champs, a wild time, and then, almost by accident, we found our groove as Seals & Crofts. It wasn’t just about the hits, though “Summer Breeze” and “Diamond Girl” certainly brought joy to millions. It was about the feeling, the connection we made with people through our music, and Dash was always the engine driving that feeling. I remember one time, after a particularly chaotic gig, he just grabbed a bottle of champagne and started dancing on the stage – pure, unadulterated joy. Dash wasn’t just a musician; he was a family man, a fiercely loving husband to his wife, Carol, and a devoted dad to his children, Michael and Susan. He adored them all, and they adored him. He’d spend hours teaching Michael to play guitar, patiently showing him chords and encouraging him to find his own voice. And Susan, well, he always had a silly song for her, a little ditty that made her laugh until her sides hurt. He was the kind of dad who built forts in the living room, told the best bedtime stories, and always, always had a listening ear. Carol was his rock, his partner in everything, and their love was a beautiful, enduring thing to witness. Beyond the music and the family, Dash had a real passion for life. He loved tinkering with cars, spending time outdoors, and collecting vintage instruments – his garage was a glorious, chaotic museum of musical memories. But more than anything, he loved people. He had this incredible ability to make you feel seen, to make you feel like you mattered. He’d offer a genuine compliment, a helping hand, or just a warm smile, and it always brightened your day. He touched so many lives with his kindness and his music, and that’s a legacy that will truly last. We’ll miss his laughter, his energy, and his unwavering spirit. Rest easy, Dash. You made the world a little brighter, and we’ll carry your music – and your memory – in our hearts forever.
