Dave McGinnis

January 1, 1952 - April 14, 2026 (Age 74)

It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to Dave. January 1st, 1952, brought a whole lot of joy into this world, and it continued to radiate outwards for 74 incredible years. I’ll always remember Dave as the guy who could simultaneously be intensely focused on a football play and completely oblivious to everything else – a skill he honed during his playing days with the TCU Horned Frogs and carried with him throughout his coaching career. He wasn’t flashy, never seeking the spotlight, but he possessed this quiet confidence and a genuine love for the game that was utterly infectious. I remember one time, during a particularly brutal recruiting trip, he spent an hour patiently explaining the nuances of a defensive formation to a bewildered teenager, completely forgetting we were miles from the car and freezing cold. That was Dave – always willing to share his knowledge and passion, never for recognition, just because he enjoyed it. Dave’s life wasn’t just about football, though. He was the most devoted husband to Carol, the most wonderful father to Sarah and Michael, and a truly amazing grandfather to little Leo. He built a family rooted in love, laughter, and a healthy dose of competitive spirit – whether it was a family game night or a heated debate about the best way to grill a steak. He had this incredible knack for making everyone feel seen and valued, and his house was always filled with the comforting aroma of something delicious cooking. He loved tinkering in the garage, building things with his hands, and spending his evenings curled up with a good book – a surprisingly gentle side to a man who commanded respect on the football field. Beyond his family, Dave found immense satisfaction in sharing his football expertise. He poured his heart and soul into coaching, mentoring countless young athletes and instilling in them a strong work ethic and a love for the sport. He transitioned into color commentary later in life, bringing his insightful analysis and genuine enthusiasm to the Tennessee Titans Radio Networ, and he did it with that same quiet dedication. He genuinely cared about the players and the game, and he always approached it with integrity and respect. Dave’s impact on those around him was profound – a steady presence, a kind heart, and a brilliant mind. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and a deep appreciation for the simple things in life. We’ll miss his goofy grin, his thoughtful advice, and the way he made every day a little brighter. Rest easy, Dave.
