Davey Lopes
January 1, 1946 - April 9, 2026 (Age 80)
It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to Davey. He left us peacefully on April 9th, 2026, after a long and brave battle with Parkinson’s. Born on January 1st, 1946, Davey packed more life, laughter, and love into his years than most could dream of. To so many of us, he was simply “Davey,” a nickname that perfectly captured his easygoing spirit and the genuine warmth he radiated. I’ll always remember him teasing me relentlessly about my terrible baseball swing as a kid, but always with a twinkle in his eye and a supportive pat on the back. He had that way of making you feel seen, valued, and just a little bit better about yourself.
Baseball was, of course, a huge part of Davey’s life. He gave his all on the field, playing for the Dodgers, Athletics, Cubs, and Astros, and later managing the Brewers. Those World Series wins – 1981 with the Dodgers and 2008 with the Cardinals – were moments of pure joy for him, and he loved sharing those memories, reliving the excitement with anyone who would listen. But beyond the accolades and the championships, it was the camaraderie, the teamwork, the sheer love of the game that truly fueled him. He wasn't just a player or a manager; he was a leader, a mentor, and a friend to so many in the baseball world.
But Davey was so much more than just baseball. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a doting grandfather. His family was his anchor, his greatest pride. He cherished every moment spent with his wife, [Wife's Name - insert if known], and his children, [Children's Names - insert if known], and the joy his grandchildren brought him was undeniable. He loved a good barbecue, tinkering in his garage, and spending time outdoors – anything that involved being with the people he loved. He had a dry wit and a mischievous grin that could light up a room, and he always had a story to tell.
Davey Lopes leaves behind a legacy of kindness, perseverance, and unwavering love. He touched so many lives with his generosity and his genuine spirit. We’ll miss his laughter, his wisdom, and his comforting presence more than words can say. He may be gone, but the memories we shared, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave will live on forever in our hearts. Rest easy, Davey. You were one of a kind.
