David Eugene Fellhauer

January 1, 1940 - March 5, 2026 (Age 86)

It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to our beloved David, or Bishop Fellhauer as so many knew him. He passed away peacefully on March 5th, 2026, at the age of 86, leaving behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and a quiet, unassuming strength that touched so many lives. Born on January 1st, 1940, David always had a gentle spirit about him, a genuine warmth that made you feel instantly at ease. I remember as a kid, he’d spend hours patiently explaining things to me, never talking down, always making sure I understood. He had this wonderful habit of listening, really *listening*, and offering a thoughtful, often humorous, perspective. He wasn’t one for grand gestures, but his consistent acts of kindness – a handwritten note, a perfectly timed phone call, a warm smile – those are the things I’ll cherish most. David’s life was dedicated to serving others, most notably as the Bishop of Victoria, Texas, from 1990 to 2015. He took that role with such grace and humility, always prioritizing the needs of his flock. But beyond the formal title, he was simply David – a man who genuinely cared about people. He loved tending to his garden, finding peace and joy in nurturing life. He was a voracious reader, always eager to learn something new, and he had a surprisingly sharp wit that could catch you off guard. Family was everything to him. He adored his nieces and nephews, always making time for them, and he held a deep and abiding love for his extended family, gathering us together for holidays and celebrations whenever possible. He was the anchor, the steady presence that held us all together. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life, offering comfort and guidance with a quiet wisdom. He wasn’t about preaching from a pulpit; he led by example, demonstrating the true meaning of compassion and service. So many in the Victoria Diocese will remember his visits to parishes, his genuine interest in their lives, and his unwavering support. He leaves behind a void that can never truly be filled, but also a profound sense of gratitude for the time we had with him. We’ll miss his gentle laughter, his thoughtful advice, and the unwavering love he showered upon us all. David is survived by his loving family and countless friends and admirers whose lives he enriched. May he rest in peace.
