Dolors Lamarca

January 1, 1944 - March 26, 2026 (Age 82)

Dolors Lamarca was a woman whose warmth, intellect, and love of books touched countless lives. Born in Granollers in 1943, she grew up surrounded by the rich culture of Catalonia, a place that would forever shape her identity and passions. From an early age, Dolors had a gift for language and storytelling, and she carried that love of words throughout her remarkable life. Her career as a Spanish philologist and librarian was more than just a profession—it was a calling. She dedicated herself to preserving and sharing the beauty of literature, leading the Service of Libraries and Bibliographic Heritage of the Generalitat de Catalunya and directing the National Library of Catalonia with both vision and heart. To her family, Dolors was the steady, loving presence at the center of it all. She and her beloved husband, Antoni Comas i Pujol, built a life together filled with laughter, learning, and deep affection. Their three daughters were the light of her life, and she nurtured in them the same curiosity and appreciation for culture that she held so dear. Dolors had a way of making everyone feel heard and valued, whether she was sharing a story from her day, offering a thoughtful piece of advice, or simply sitting together in comfortable silence. Her home was always open, her table always welcoming, and her heart always generous. Dolors found joy in the simple pleasures: a good book by the fire, a walk through the streets of her beloved Barcelona, a conversation with an old friend. She had a laugh that could light up a room and a spirit that never stopped seeking beauty in the world. Even in her professional life, she never lost her personal touch—she believed that libraries were not just buildings of books, but places of connection, discovery, and community. Her legacy lives on in the countless people she inspired, the institutions she built, and the love she so freely gave. Though we will miss her terribly, Dolors Lamarca's life was a testament to the power of kindness, curiosity, and commitment. She leaves behind a family who adored her, a profession she elevated, and a world made brighter by her presence. May we all carry forward a little of her light.
