Domingos Lucas Naftal

January 1, 1942 - April 13, 2026 (Age 84)

It’s hard to believe he’s really gone. Domingos Lucas Naftal, or “Dingo” as we all knew him, slipped away on April 9th, 2026, after a life filled with passion, laughter, and a surprising amount of mud – both on and off the football pitch. Born on January 1st, 1942, Dingo lived a life that, while perhaps not splashed across headlines, was overflowing with a quiet, genuine joy. I remember when I first met him, years ago, at a little gathering – he was immediately telling a ridiculously embellished story about a tackle he’d made, complete with dramatic gestures and a twinkle in his eye. That was Dingo in a nutshell: full of life, a little bit of mischief, and always ready to share a good yarn. Dingo’s football career was a testament to his dedication and skill. He played for some fantastic clubs – Tirsense, Porto, and Vitória Guimarães – and while I never saw him play professionally, I heard countless stories of his tenacity and his uncanny ability to find the back of the net. But beyond the trophies and the stadiums, what truly defined him was his family. He adored his wife, Maria, and their children, João and Sofia, and they were the center of his world. He’d spend hours patiently teaching João to kick a ball, and always had a silly face for Sofia when she was feeling down. He wasn’t a man of grand pronouncements, but his love was a constant, warm presence in their lives. Dingo had a simple happiness, a deep appreciation for the small things. He loved tending his garden – always boasting about his tomatoes – and he could spend hours whittling little wooden figures. He was a man who found joy in the everyday, in a good cup of coffee, a sunny afternoon, and the company of loved ones. He had this incredible ability to make everyone around him feel comfortable and valued; he just had a way of seeing the good in people. He touched so many lives with his kindness and unassuming spirit. He leaves behind a legacy not of fame, but of love, loyalty, and a genuine appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. We’ll miss his infectious laugh, his warm hugs, and the way he always managed to make us feel like the most important people in the world. Rest in peace, Dingo. You were, and always will be, deeply loved.
