Dory Selinger
January 1, 1972 - April 19, 2026 (Age 54)
It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to Dory. Born on January 1st, 1972, he truly lived a life packed into those years, a life defined by incredible strength, unwavering determination, and a spirit that could light up any room. I remember when he first got into cycling – it wasn’t just a sport for him, it was freedom. He’d spend hours tinkering with his bike, always striving for that perfect ride, that extra bit of speed. And then to see him achieve everything he did, becoming a Paralympic champion in 1996 and a three-time World champion… it was breathtaking. He never let anything hold him back, and that was just *Dory*. He had this infectious laugh and a way of making everyone around him feel like they could conquer anything too.
But Dory was so much more than his athletic achievements. He was a devoted son, a loving brother, and a fiercely loyal friend. Family meant everything to him. He’d call just to check in, to share a silly story, or to offer support, no matter what was going on in his own life. He had a knack for remembering every birthday, every anniversary, every little detail that mattered. And he loved a good family gathering, always the first to volunteer to help with the cooking (though his attempts were sometimes… adventurous!). He found so much joy in simply being with the people he loved, and that joy was contagious.
Cycling wasn’t his only passion, either. He was a huge music fan, always discovering new artists and sharing his latest finds. He loved being outdoors, whether it was a quiet hike in the woods or a challenging bike ride. And he had a real gift for connecting with people from all walks of life. He volunteered his time with adaptive sports programs, inspiring countless others to push their limits and believe in themselves. He didn’t just break records; he broke down barriers. He showed the world what was possible with courage, resilience, and a whole lot of heart.
Dory left us on April 19th, 2026, far too soon. The world feels a little dimmer without his smile, his laughter, and his unwavering optimism. But his spirit will live on in all of us who were lucky enough to know and love him. He taught us to never give up, to embrace life’s challenges, and to always, always believe in ourselves. We’ll miss you terribly, Dory. Rest easy, knowing you made a difference.
