Ellie Rodríguez

January 1, 1947 - April 24, 2026 (Age 79)

It's with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Ellie Rodríguez, born January 1, 1947, and peacefully departed this life on April 24, 2026. Ellie wasn’t just a baseball player; she was a force of nature, a vibrant spirit who touched so many lives with her warmth, her humor, and her unwavering dedication to those she loved. Growing up in Puerto Rico, Ellie’s passion for baseball blossomed early, leading her to a remarkable career in Major League Baseball, playing for teams like the Kansas City Royals and the California Angels. It’s hard to believe someone could have such a fierce competitive drive and such a generous heart all at once. I remember watching her games – she wasn’t just hitting the ball; she was commanding the field, a true leader and a joy to watch. Ellie was the heart of our family. Her love for her siblings, especially her sister Sofía, was legendary. They shared a bond that time and distance couldn’t diminish, filled with laughter, shared memories, and a deep understanding that only family can offer. She was a devoted aunt to her nieces and nephews, always ready with a hug, a story, or a piece of advice – often delivered with a mischievous twinkle in her eye. Ellie had a knack for making everyone feel seen and valued. She had a way of connecting with people, of making them feel comfortable and appreciated. And beyond baseball and family, Ellie loved to garden, filling her home with the fragrant blooms of her favorite flowers. She found solace and joy in the simple things, and that’s what made her so incredibly special. Ellie’s impact extended far beyond the baseball diamond and the garden. She was a mentor to many young athletes, sharing her knowledge and passion with anyone who showed an interest. She always believed in giving back, volunteering her time and energy to support local community initiatives. She had a smile that could light up a room and a laugh that could fill it with warmth. She taught us the importance of perseverance, of never giving up on your dreams, and of always approaching life with a positive attitude. Ellie is survived by her siblings, Sofía and Rafael, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will deeply miss her. She will be remembered for her strength, her kindness, her spirit, and the indelible mark she left on all of our lives. Though she may be gone, her memory will continue to inspire us to live life to the fullest, to cherish our loved ones, and to always pursue our passions with unwavering determination. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the local Boys & Girls Club in Ellie’s name – a place she always championed.
