Ernie Anastos

January 1, 1944 - March 13, 2026 (Age 82)

It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to Ernie. Born on January 1st, 1944, he truly lived a life full of energy, warmth, and a genuine desire to spread positivity – a fitting legacy for a man who became known as “Positively Ernie.” I remember visiting him on set at Fox 5 as a kid, completely mesmerized by the lights and cameras, but even more so by how *present* he was with everyone, from the director to the interns. He’d always have a silly joke or a kind word, making everyone feel like they mattered. That wasn’t just for show, either. That was Ernie, through and through. He wasn’t just a newsman; he was a storyteller. He had this incredible ability to connect with people, to find the good even in difficult times. “Positively America” and his radio show weren’t about sensationalism, they were about uplifting stories, about celebrating the everyday heroes among us. And his children’s books! He poured so much love and creativity into those, wanting to instill a sense of hope and kindness in the next generation. Family meant everything to Ernie. He spoke often and with such pride about his children and grandchildren, always beaming when sharing their accomplishments. He built a beautiful life with his wife, and their home was always filled with laughter and love. Beyond the broadcast booth, Ernie was a true New Yorker. He loved the energy of the city, the diversity, the constant pulse of life. He was honored by Mayor de Blasio in 2017, a testament to the impact he had on our community, but he never let any recognition change him. He remained humble, approachable, and always willing to lend an ear or offer encouragement. He battled pneumonia with the same grace and optimism he brought to everything else, determined to keep shining his light for as long as he could. Ernie left us on March 13th, 2026, but his spirit – that infectious positivity, that unwavering kindness – will live on in all of us who knew and loved him. He reminded us to look for the good, to celebrate life’s simple joys, and to always, *always* choose to be positive. He will be deeply missed.
