Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said
January 1, 1941 - March 14, 2026 (Age 85)
It feels impossible to write this, to truly capture the essence of Fahd. He was, quite simply, a force of nature – a kind, thoughtful, and incredibly sharp man who dedicated his life to Oman and the people he loved. Born on October 5th, 1940, Fahd lived a life brimming with purpose and a quiet, unwavering grace. I’ll always remember his booming laugh, a sound that could fill a room and instantly put you at ease. He had this incredible ability to make everyone feel seen, to truly listen, and to offer advice that was both practical and deeply compassionate. We shared so many wonderful memories – from late-night conversations about politics and history, to ridiculously competitive rounds of backgammon (he always let me win, of course!), and countless family gatherings filled with the warmth of his incredible family.
Fahd’s dedication to Oman was legendary, and he served as Deputy Prime Minister with a remarkable commitment for over four decades, starting in 1979. But beyond the political arena, he was a man of deep passions. He adored horses – the scent of leather and the thrill of a race were pure joy for him. He spent countless hours at the Royal Cavalry, not just as a patron, but genuinely interested in the care and training of those magnificent animals. And let’s not forget his love for falconry; watching him patiently work with those incredible birds, a silent understanding passing between them, was truly special. He instilled in his children and grandchildren a deep respect for tradition and a love for the Omani landscape.
More than anything, Fahd was a family man. He adored his wife, Sayyida Badur, and their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was the glue that held us all together, offering unwavering support and a constant stream of love. He had this way of making each of us feel like the most important person in the world. His influence extended far beyond his immediate family, though. He was respected and admired by colleagues, friends, and countless others throughout Oman and beyond, known for his integrity, his wisdom, and his genuine desire to see his country thrive.
Fahd’s passing leaves a profound void, but his legacy of service, kindness, and love will undoubtedly live on. He taught us the importance of duty, the value of family, and the beauty of a life well-lived. We will miss him dearly, but we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, surrounded by the love he so freely gave.
