Franco Tentorio

It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to Franco. He left us peacefully on March 28th, 2026, at the age of 81, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and a truly infectious laugh. Born on January 1st, 1945, Franco was, above all else, a good man. I remember when I was a kid, he’d always have a pocket full of candies for us, and he’d tell the silliest stories, the kind that made your belly ache from laughing. He had this way of making everyone feel seen and valued, whether you were a lifelong friend or a complete stranger. He wasn't one for grand gestures, but his quiet generosity and genuine warmth were constant, a comforting presence in all our lives. Franco’s passion for Bergamo ran deep. Serving as its mayor from 2009 to 2014 was a point of immense pride for him, but it wasn’t about power or prestige. It was about serving the people he loved, working tirelessly to make his city a better place for everyone. He’d spend hours talking to residents, listening to their concerns, and genuinely trying to find solutions. Beyond politics, Franco was a devoted family man. His love for his wife, Maria, was a beautiful thing to witness – a partnership built on respect, laughter, and unwavering support. He cherished his children and grandchildren, always making time for family dinners, Sunday afternoon strolls, and sharing his wisdom (often delivered with a twinkle in his eye). He found joy in the simple things: a perfectly brewed espresso, a lively game of cards with friends, and the beauty of the Italian countryside. He loved tending to his garden, and there was something incredibly satisfying about seeing him proudly show off his tomatoes or the vibrant blooms of his roses. He wasn’t a man of many possessions, but he was rich in spirit and surrounded by the love of those who knew him best. Franco’s impact on those around him was profound. He taught us the importance of integrity, the power of listening, and the beauty of a life lived with kindness and purpose. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Maria, his children, grandchildren, countless friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
