Georgy Golitsyn

January 1, 1935 - May 8, 2026 (Age 91)

Georgy Sergeyevich Golitsyn, our beloved father, grandfather, and friend, left us on May 6, 2026, at the age of 91. To know Georgy was to know a man who approached life with the same curiosity and precision he brought to his groundbreaking work in atmospheric physics. Whether he was explaining the intricacies of cloud formation to his grandchildren or tending to his garden with the care of a seasoned scientist, Georgy found wonder in the world around him. His mind was a tapestry of logic and creativity, weaving together his noble heritage as a descendant of the Golitsyn princely family with a humility that made everyone feel seen and valued. Georgy’s love for learning was infectious. As a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and editor of *Izvestiya*, he shaped the future of atmospheric research, but his greatest pride was in nurturing the minds of others. He’d often say, “Science is a conversation, not a lecture,” and lived that truth by mentoring countless colleagues and students. At home, he was the storyteller, regaling us with tales of his father, the writer Sergei Mikhailovich, and how words and equations both sought to understand the mysteries of existence. His laugh—deep and warm—could fill a room, and his hands, though weathered from decades of work, were always ready to build a model airplane or help a neighbor
