It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to our beloved Gerardo. He left us peacefully on April 21st, 2026, at the remarkable age of 96, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, integrity, and a quiet strength that touched so many lives. Born on January 1st, 1930, Gerardo lived a full and vibrant life, always with a twinkle in his eye and a ready smile. I’ll always remember him meticulously tending to his orchids – a true testament to his patience and appreciation for beauty. He’d spend hours talking about them, explaining the nuances of their care, and beaming with pride when they bloomed. It was a small thing, but it perfectly captured his gentle spirit. Gerardo was a man of principle, dedicated to serving his country. His years as a lawyer and politician, first in the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais and then as a deputy in the Chamber of Deputies, were driven by a genuine desire to make a difference. He wasn't one for grandstanding; he believed in quiet diplomacy and working tirelessly behind the scenes. But more than his political career, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He cherished his family above all else, always ready with a comforting word, a listening ear, or a playful tease. I remember countless Sunday afternoons spent at his house, filled with laughter, delicious food (his feijoada was legendary!), and the comforting feeling of being truly loved. He had a knack for making everyone feel seen and valued. Beyond his orchids and his political work, Gerardo loved a good game of chess, a lively debate (always conducted with respect, of course!), and a strong cup of coffee. He was a voracious reader, always eager to learn something new, and he instilled that love of learning in his children and grandchildren. He was a man of quiet passions, finding joy in the simple things and appreciating the beauty around him. He taught us the importance of kindness, honesty, and perseverance – lessons we will carry with us always. We will miss his wisdom, his humor, and his unwavering love more than words can say. He leaves behind a heartbroken but eternally grateful family – his children, grandchildren, and a community that was profoundly enriched by his presence. Though he is gone, the warmth of his memory will forever bloom in our hearts, like the vibrant orchids he so lovingly nurtured. Descansa em paz, querido.
