H. K. Dua

January 1, 1938 - March 4, 2026 (Age 88)

It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to H. K. Dua. He left us peacefully on March 4th, 2026, at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, sharp wit, and a whole lot of love. To so many of us, he was simply Papa, Dada, or H.K. – a man who always had a twinkle in his eye and a story to tell. He was born on January 1st, 1938, and lived a life brimming with purpose and passion, a life dedicated to truth and connection. I remember as a child, sitting at his feet while he’d recount tales from his days as a journalist, his voice animated as he described the bustling newsrooms of the *Hindustan Times*, *The Indian Express*, and *The Tribune*. He made even the most complex political stories sound fascinating, and instilled in me a deep respect for the power of words. He wasn’t just reporting the news; he was shaping it, influencing it, and always, always striving for fairness. Beyond his remarkable career – a career that saw him rise to editor of some of India’s most respected newspapers and even serve as India’s Ambassador to Denmark – H.K. was, above all, a family man. He adored his wife, [Wife's Name - please insert], and their bond was a constant source of strength and joy for him. He was the most doting grandfather to [Grandchildren's Names - please insert], always ready with a silly joke, a warm hug, and a lesson learned. He loved nothing more than gathering the family around the table for a delicious meal, filled with laughter and lively conversation. He had a quiet generosity, always ready to lend an ear or offer a helping hand, and his wisdom was something we all treasured. He found immense pleasure in his garden, tending to his roses with the same care and dedication he brought to everything he did. H.K.’s impact extended far beyond his immediate family. He mentored countless young journalists, inspiring them to pursue truth and uphold ethical standards. He believed in the power of dialogue and understanding, and his time as an MP in the Rajya Sabha reflected that commitment. He was a man of principle, unwavering in his beliefs, but always open to hearing different perspectives. He wasn’t afraid to challenge the status quo, but he did so with grace and respect. He received recognition for his contributions to media, being named 'media person for 1994' – a testament to his dedication and skill. We will miss his booming laugh, his insightful observations, and the comforting presence he brought to every room. The world feels a little quieter without him. But his legacy of integrity, kindness, and a relentless pursuit of truth will live on in all of us who were fortunate enough to know and love him. Rest in peace, Papa/Dada/H.K. You were, and always will be, deeply cherished.
