Henry Nwosu
January 1, 1964 - March 14, 2026 (Age 62)
It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to Henry. Our Henry. Born on January 1st, 1964, and leaving us far too soon on March 14th, 2026, he was a force of nature, a whirlwind of laughter, and the most genuinely kind person I’ve ever known. I’ll always remember his booming laugh – it could fill a room and instantly chase away any gloom. He had this incredible ability to make you feel seen, truly seen, like you were the most important person in the world when he was talking to you. He wasn’t one for grand gestures, but his quiet acts of kindness, a perfectly timed joke, a knowing look across a crowded room – those are the things I’ll cherish most. He was a man of unwavering integrity, always doing what he felt was right, even when it wasn’t easy.
Of course, most people knew Henry for his incredible talent on the football pitch. From his days with New Nigeria Bank F.C. to representing his country on the national team, he was a legend. And later, as a manager with Gateway United F.C., he poured his heart and soul into nurturing young talent, always believing in their potential even when they doubted themselves. But for us, he was so much more than a footballer. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a fiercely protective brother. His family was his everything. I remember countless Sunday afternoons spent at his house, the aroma of his amazing jollof rice filling the air, surrounded by his children, his wife, and a house overflowing with love and laughter. He was so incredibly proud of each and every one of them.
Beyond football and family, Henry found joy in the simple things: a good book, a lively game of chess (which he almost always won!), and spending time outdoors. He loved the feeling of the sun on his face and the quiet peace of a walk in the park. He wasn’t flashy or materialistic; his happiness came from connection, from sharing moments with the people he loved. He had a knack for finding the humor in everyday situations, and his playful spirit was infectious.
Henry leaves behind a legacy of passion, dedication, and above all, love. He touched so many lives with his generosity and warmth, and he will be deeply missed by his wife, children, siblings, friends, and countless others who were fortunate enough to know him. The world feels a little dimmer without his light, but the memories of his laughter, his kindness, and his unwavering spirit will live on forever in our hearts. Rest peacefully, Henry. You were truly one of a kind.
