Jerry Hanlon
January 1, 1930 - March 23, 2026 (Age 96)
It’s with a heavy heart, yet a grateful spirit, that we announce the passing of Jerry Hanlon on March 23, 2026, at the age of 95. Jerry lived a life filled with passion, dedication, and a genuine warmth that touched everyone he met. Born on January 1, 1930, Jerry wasn’t just a man; he was a force of nature – a quick wit, a loyal friend, and a man who always had a story to tell, often accompanied by a twinkle in his eye. I’ll always remember his infectious laugh, the way he could make even the most ordinary day feel special. He had a knack for finding joy in the simple things, whether it was a perfectly thrown football, a well-crafted radio broadcast, or spending time with loved ones.
Jerry’s life was deeply intertwined with the world of football. As a halfback at Miami University in the 1950s, he was part of two championship teams under Coach Parseghian – a source of immense pride he carried throughout his life. He then dedicated decades to coaching at universities like Dayton, Miami, and the University of Michigan, sharing his knowledge and passion with countless young athletes. But Jerry’s impact extended far beyond the playing field. His time as a radio announcer for Michigan Wolverines football games on WJR radio from 1993 to 1995 allowed him to connect with fans on a deeper level, sharing his insights and enthusiasm with a whole new audience. He truly believed in the power of teamwork, perseverance, and striving for excellence – values he instilled in everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Family was everything to Jerry. He was a devoted husband to [mention wife's name if applicable, or "his beloved family"], a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He cherished time spent with his family, always eager to share stories from his past and offer words of wisdom. He was a constant source of support and encouragement, always ready with a helping hand or a listening ear. His love was unwavering, and his presence brought so much joy to all of our lives.
Jerry leaves behind a legacy of sportsmanship, dedication, and kindness. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former players, and countless fans who were touched by his spirit. Though he may be gone, the memories of his laughter, his stories, and his unwavering love will live on in our hearts forever. He showed us all how to live a life filled with passion, purpose, and a whole lot of heart.
