Jim Jabir
January 1, 1963 - April 19, 2026 (Age 63)
It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to Jim Jabir. He left us far too soon on April 16, 2026, after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on January 1, 1963, Jim lived a life overflowing with passion, dedication, and a whole lot of heart. Most people knew him as a phenomenal basketball coach – leading the Dayton Flyers, Siena Saints, and Marquette Golden Eagles with an energy and enthusiasm that was truly infectious. But to those of us who knew him best, he was so much more than that. He was a friend, a mentor, a brother, and a man who could light up a room with his booming laugh and genuine smile. I’ll always remember the time he tried to teach me how to shoot a free throw – I missed every single one, and he just threw his head back and roared with laughter, completely unconcerned with my lack of skill. That was Jim – always finding joy in the simple things and making everyone around him feel comfortable and accepted.
Family was everything to Jim. He cherished his relationships with his loved ones, and his love for them was evident in every action. He was a devoted son, a loving brother, and a fiercely loyal friend. He always made time for those he cared about, offering a listening ear, a helping hand, or just a comforting presence. He had a knack for making you feel like you were the most important person in the world, even when he was juggling a million things. His passion for basketball undoubtedly shaped his life, but it was his love for his family and friends that truly defined him. Seeing him beam with pride watching his nieces and nephews grow up was a testament to the kind of man he was – supportive, encouraging, and always there to celebrate their successes.
Beyond the court, Jim was a man of simple pleasures. He loved a good book, a classic movie, and a lively conversation. He was always up for a challenge, whether it was mastering a new recipe (with varying degrees of success!) or tackling a complex crossword puzzle. He had a dry wit and a playful spirit that kept us all entertained. But above all, he loved connecting with people, building relationships, and making a positive impact on the lives of those around him. He inspired countless young women through his coaching, instilling in them not just basketball skills, but also confidence, resilience, and a belief in themselves.
Jim’s absence leaves a hole in our hearts that can never truly be filled. But his legacy of kindness, passion, and unwavering dedication will live on. We’ll miss his laughter, his wisdom, and his unwavering spirit. Rest easy, Jim. You were loved more than words can say.
