Jorge Enrique Serpa Pérez

January 1, 1942 - April 20, 2026 (Age 84)

It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to our beloved Jorge Enrique. Born on January 1st, 1942, and peacefully passing on April 20th, 2026, he lived a life dedicated to faith, service, and an unwavering kindness that touched everyone he met. Most of you will know him as Bishop Jorge Enrique Serpa Pérez, a role he embraced with such grace and humility during his time serving the Diocese of Pinar del Río. But to his family and friends, he was simply Jorge – a warm, witty, and endlessly patient man with a twinkle in his eye and a ready smile. I remember as a child, he’d spend hours teaching me about the constellations, pointing out the Big Dipper and Orion with such enthusiasm, it made the night sky feel like a magical storybook. He had a way of making even the simplest things feel extraordinary. Jorge’s devotion to his faith was the bedrock of his life, but it was his genuine love for people that truly defined him. He was a remarkable listener, always offering a comforting word or a thoughtful perspective. He had a quiet strength, a gentle wisdom that drew people to him. He cherished his family above all else – his wife, his children, his grandchildren – and his home was always filled with laughter, delicious Cuban food, and the comforting aroma of strong coffee. He loved a good game of dominoes, a lively conversation, and the simple pleasure of tending to his garden, finding peace and joy in the beauty of nature. He always said a well-tended garden reflected a well-tended soul. Beyond his official duties, Jorge was a champion for the underserved, a voice for the voiceless. He believed deeply in the power of compassion and worked tirelessly to alleviate suffering and bring hope to those in need. He wasn’t one for grand gestures; his kindness was woven into the fabric of his everyday life, in the small acts of generosity and the unwavering support he offered to so many. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and love that will continue to inspire us all. We will miss his laughter, his wisdom, and the warmth of his presence more than words can say. Jorge is survived by [mention immediate family - wife, children, grandchildren]. Though our hearts ache with his absence, we find comfort in knowing that he lived a life filled with purpose and love, and that his spirit will forever remain in our hearts. May he rest in peace.
