It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to José Maria. Born on January 1st, 1955, he left us far too soon on March 25th, 2026, leaving a hole in our lives that will be impossible to fill. He was, simply put, a force of nature – a warm, witty, and endlessly generous man who touched so many lives. Most people knew him as a successful banker, a career he dedicated himself to with a sharp mind and a genuine passion for the world of finance. But to us, he was so much more. I’ll always remember his booming laugh, the way his eyes crinkled at the corners when he was truly amused, and his uncanny ability to tell a story that would have you captivated for hours. He could make even the most mundane topic fascinating, and he always had a twinkle in his eye, hinting at a mischievous spirit just waiting to break free. Family was everything to José Maria. He cherished his wife, [Wife's Name - please insert], with a devotion that was truly inspiring, and his love for his children and grandchildren was boundless. Sunday dinners at his house were legendary – a chaotic, joyful gathering filled with laughter, delicious food (he was a surprisingly good cook!), and the comforting feeling of belonging. He was the kind of grandfather who would drop everything to build a Lego castle, tell silly jokes, and always, always have time for a hug. He instilled in us all a deep appreciation for family, for tradition, and for the importance of connection. He was a rock, a confidant, and the heart of our family. Beyond his professional life and his family, José Maria found immense joy in the simple things. He was an avid reader, always with a stack of books by his side, and a passionate gardener, taking pride in his vibrant roses and the perfectly ripe tomatoes he’d share with everyone. He loved a good game of chess, a glass of Portuguese wine, and lively conversations about politics and history. He travelled extensively, always eager to learn about new cultures and experience the world, but he always came home, eager to share his adventures with those he loved. José Maria’s kindness and generosity extended far beyond his immediate circle. He quietly supported numerous charities and always lent a helping hand to those in need. He had a remarkable ability to make people feel seen and valued, and his genuine warmth and empathy will be deeply missed by all who knew him. We will carry his memory in our hearts, cherishing the laughter, the love, and the countless moments of joy he brought into our lives. Rest in peace, dear José Maria. You were loved beyond measure.
