Juca de Oliveira

January 1, 1935 - March 23, 2026 (Age 91)

It’s with a heart overflowing with sadness, but also brimming with gratitude, that we say goodbye to Juca de Oliveira. Born on January 1st, 1935, he left us on March 23rd, 2026, after a long and beautiful life filled with laughter, stories, and a truly remarkable career. I remember when I first met Juca – it was at a small, smoky bar in Rio, and he was telling the most outrageous story about a disastrous audition. That was Juca in a nutshell: utterly charming, wonderfully self-deprecating, and always ready with a tale that would leave you breathless. He had this incredible ability to make everyone feel like they were part of his world, and I was instantly captivated. Juca was a man of simple pleasures – a good cup of coffee, a lively debate, and, of course, acting. He poured his heart and soul into every role, from the mischievous Naves brothers in “[[Case of the Naves Brothers]]” to the complex characters he brought to life in “[[The Sign of the City]]” and “[[De Onde Eu Te Vejo]]”. But beyond the silver screen, he was a devoted husband to his beloved Maria, and a wonderfully playful and protective father to his children and grandchildren. He’d spend hours teaching his grandkids how to play cards, always with a twinkle in his eye and a gentle teasing tone. Family was everything to Juca, and he cherished every moment with them. He always said his greatest joy was simply being surrounded by the people he loved. Juca’s passion for life extended beyond acting; he was a true enthusiast of Brazilian music, particularly samba, and could often be found at local clubs, tapping his feet and singing along. He had this infectious energy, a genuine warmth that drew people to him. He didn’t seek the spotlight, but he had a profound impact on everyone he met. He had a way of making you feel seen, heard, and valued. He was a kind soul, a loyal friend, and a truly gifted artist. Juca may be gone, but his spirit, his stories, and the countless memories he gifted us will live on forever. He leaves behind a legacy of joy, laughter, and a reminder to embrace life with open arms and a generous heart. We will miss you dearly, my dear Juca.
