Katsumi Miyaji

It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Katsumi Miyaji on April 27th, 2026, at the age of 85. Katsumi was a truly remarkable person, a man who lived with passion and a quiet strength that everyone who knew him admired. I’ll always remember his booming laugh, especially when he’d tell stories about his days playing rugby – stories filled with grit, camaraderie, and a healthy dose of playful ribbing. He wasn’t one for grand gestures, but his kindness was always evident, a warm hand offered, a listening ear, and a genuine interest in the lives of those around him. He possessed a rare ability to make everyone feel seen and valued. Katsumi’s life was dedicated to the game of rugby, a sport he embraced with unwavering commitment. As a prop for both the Sanyo Electric team and the Japan national team, he was a force to be reckoned with, but beyond the athleticism, it was his dedication to teamwork and sportsmanship that truly defined him. But his passion extended far beyond the field. He poured his energy into coaching, shaping young athletes and instilling in them the values of discipline, perseverance, and respect. I remember countless hours spent with him, not just discussing strategy, but also sharing stories and offering encouragement. He had a knack for finding the potential in everyone and nurturing it. His family was the center of his world.
