It’s hard to believe our big-hearted force of nature, Kevin Buys, has left us. Born on the first day of 1986, Kevin lived his 40 years with the same passion and commitment he brought to the rugby pitch, first wearing the green and gold of the Southern Kings, then the Lions, and finally embracing the French spirit at Brive. He wasn't just a player; he was a leader on the field and a loyal friend off it. We’ll miss his booming laugh that could be heard over a stadium roar and his unwavering support, always the first to celebrate your win or lift you up after a loss. Whether you knew him from scrum practice or a braai, Kevin made you feel like family. Family was Kevin’s anchor and his greatest joy. He adored being a husband and father, finding pure bliss in teaching his kids to kick a rugby ball in the backyard or simply sharing quiet moments. His love for his wife and children was the quiet strength behind his powerhouse personality. Beyond the game, Kevin found deep satisfaction in the simple things: the smell of a braai fire, the camaraderie of a post-match drink, or the challenge of a tricky DIY project. He approached life with the same determination he showed on the field, tackling everything with a grin and a "let's get it done" attitude. Kevin’s impact was immense. He inspired countless young players with his skill and sportsmanship, showing them how to play hard and respect the game. But more than that, he taught everyone he met the power of genuine kindness and unwavering loyalty. He left a trail of smiling faces and grateful hearts.
