It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Laura Balbo, born January 1st, 1934, and peacefully departed this life on April 17th, 2026. I have the privilege of being one of those who felt so deeply by her presence. I’ll always remember her infectious laugh, the way her eyes sparkled when she talked about her work, or the quiet strength she possessed. She had this incredible ability to make everyone feel seen and valued, and I know that countless people will cherish the memories of her kindness and generosity. Laura’s life was a testament to her unwavering dedication to making the world a better place. As a sociologist and politician, she dedicated herself to championing equal opportunities, a cause she truly believed in. Her time as Minister for Equal Opportunities was a shining example of her commitment to justice and fairness. But beyond her professional accomplishments, Laura was a devoted family woman. She cherished her family above all else, and her love was a constant source of warmth and support. I will forever remember her as the woman who always had time for a listening ear, a comforting word, or a perfectly timed piece of advice.
