Leoš Šimánek

Leoš Šimánek was a man who truly embraced life in all its fullness. Born on April 19, 1946, in the small town of Choceň, Czechoslovakia, Leoš grew up with an adventurous spirit that would define his entire life. He studied civil engineering with diligence and precision, but when the winds of change blew through his homeland in 1968, Leoš made the brave decision to leave everything behind and start anew in Germany. There, he built not just structures but a new life for himself, working in construction and eventually becoming a German citizen. His journey didn't stop there - Leoš later added Canadian citizenship to his story, showing his remarkable ability to adapt and thrive wherever he went. But it was after the Velvet Revolution in 1990 that Leoš truly found his calling. Returning to his homeland, he embarked on a lifetime of travel that would inspire countless others. From the 1970s onward, Leoš explored the far corners of our world, his curious eyes and open heart absorbing every culture, landscape, and human connection he encountered. His books about these journeys weren't just travelogues - they were windows into the soul of a man who saw the beauty in every person and place he met. Leoš had a gift for making friends wherever he went, his warm smile and genuine interest in others opening doors and hearts across continents. Those who knew Leoš best remember him as a man of endless enthusiasm and kindness.
