Léopoldine Tiézan Coffie

January 1, 1951 - March 1, 2026 (Age 75)

It feels utterly impossible to write this, to put into words the vibrant, beautiful soul that was Léopoldine. Born on January 1st, 1951, she lived a life overflowing with passion, with a fierce intelligence, and with a heart so big it could encompass everyone she met. I remember when I first met her – she was a whirlwind of energy, arguing passionately about local politics at a small café in Abidjan. Even then, you could see the fire in her eyes, the unwavering belief in what she thought was right. Léopoldine wasn’t just a politician; she was a force of nature, a woman who genuinely cared about her people and dedicated her life to making a difference. She had this incredible ability to make you feel seen, to truly listen, and to challenge you to be better. And let’s be honest, she could be wonderfully stubborn – a trait that served her so well in navigating the complexities of Ivorian politics, and, frankly, kept us all on our toes. Léopoldine was the heart of our family. She adored her children, Antoine and Sophie, and her grandchildren, little Leo and Maya, with a fierce, protective love. She’d spend hours teaching them French, telling them stories of her childhood, and patiently explaining the importance of standing up for what you believe in. She always said family was everything, and she lived that belief every single day. Beyond family, she had a deep love for music – particularly highlife – and could often be found dancing with abandon at any celebration. Her garden was her sanctuary; she poured so much love into her roses, and they, in turn, reflected her own radiant spirit. Her career as a politician was driven by a profound desire to serve her country, and she achieved so much during her time with the PDCI-RDA. But for Léopoldine, it wasn’t about power or prestige; it was about lifting up those around her, about creating a more just and equitable society. She mentored countless young people, encouraging them to pursue their dreams and to engage in civic life. She had this remarkable way of inspiring hope, even in the face of adversity. She touched so many lives, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, courage, and unwavering dedication. Léopoldine’s sudden passing, due to a cardiac arrest, leaves a gaping hole in our hearts. We will miss her laughter, her wisdom, and her fierce spirit more than words can say. But we will carry her memory with us, a reminder to live with passion, to fight for what’s right, and to always, always, love fiercely. Rest in peace, my dear Léopoldine.
