Louis Tapardjuk
January 1, 1953 - April 8, 2026 (Age 73)
My dear friend Louis, you left us on April 8th, 2026, but the warmth of your spirit and the strength of your presence will forever echo in our hearts. Born on a crisp January day in 1953, nestled in an igloo northwest of Igloolik, you carried the vast, beautiful land of Nunavut in your soul from the very beginning. You were more than just a politician; you were a proud son of the North, a man deeply connected to the land and its people.
Your life was a testament to service and dedication. You stepped into the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut in 2004, representing Amittuq with unwavering commitment. You didn't just hold office; you rolled up your sleeves. You served with honour on the Executive Council, first as Minister of Finance, then as Minister of Culture, Language, Elders and Youth (CLEY). You fought tirelessly for our communities, understanding that true progress meant nurturing our culture, supporting our elders, and investing in our children's future. You believed in Nunavut, fiercely and completely.
