Manuel Estella

January 1, 1940 - March 27, 2026 (Age 86)

It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to Manuel. Born on January 1st, 1940, he always said starting the year with him meant good luck – and honestly, being around him *felt* lucky. He passed away peacefully on March 27th, 2026, leaving a hole in all our lives that will be impossible to fill. Most people knew Manuel as a dedicated public servant, as the president of the Cortes of Castile and León from 1991 to 2003, and a deputy for so many years before that. But for those of us who loved him, he was so much more. He was the heart of our family, a man with a mischievous twinkle in his eye and a booming laugh that could fill a room. I remember as a child, he’d always have a little something tucked away for me – a small toy, a funny story, or just a warm hug. He had this incredible ability to make everyone feel seen and valued. Politics was important to him, of course, he believed deeply in serving his community, but it never overshadowed his love for his family. He and his beloved wife, were a team in every sense of the word, supporting each other through thick and thin. He was a proud father and grandfather, always eager to hear about our lives and offer advice, even when we didn’t ask for it! He’d beam with pride watching his grandchildren, always encouraging them to pursue their passions. Beyond his professional life and family, Manuel found joy in the simple things. He loved a good game of dominoes, a glass of Rioja with friends, and tending to his garden. He wasn’t a man for grand gestures, but for consistent kindness. He had a knack for knowing exactly what to say to lift your spirits, and he always offered a helping hand to anyone in need. He truly believed in the power of community and worked tirelessly to make Castile and León a better place for everyone. Manuel leaves behind a legacy of dedication, integrity, and above all, love. He touched so many lives with his warmth and generosity, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. We’ll miss his stories, his laughter, and his unwavering belief in us. Though he’s gone, the memories we shared will live on forever in our hearts. He wasn’t just a politician; he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and a true friend. Rest in peace, Manuel. We love you.
