Marcel Labine
January 1, 1948 - May 6, 2026 (Age 78)
Marcel Labine, the Canadian poet whose life spanned from the 25th of February, 1948, to the 4th of May, 2026, was a man of profound depth and warmth. His poetry, as rich and textured as the landscapes of Quebec, was a reflection of his soul. I recall the times we spent at the cozy little cafĆ© in Montreal, where heād arrive, a book in hand, and share snippets of his latest verses with a twinkle in his eye. His words had a way of making you feel seen and understood, a gift he wielded with the grace of a seasoned storyteller.
Marcelās heart was as big as his laugh, and it was impossible not to be drawn into his world. He had this way of making everyone he met feel like the most important person in the room. Whether it was his best friend Pierre, who heād tease mercilessly for his clumsy dance moves, or his daughter Claire, who heād remind each morning to āhave a little breakfastā before starting her day, Marcelās love for his family was palpable. He cherished every moment, especially those spent gardening with Claire, where the smell of fresh soil mingled with the laughter of their playful toddler.
His passions were as varied as they were vibrant. Beyond poetry, Marcel had a love for the outdoors, often found hiking the rugged terrains of the Laurentians, or sitting by the lakeside, scribbling in his notebook. He had a special fondness for the old jazz records, slipping them into the record player in his small, well-loved house, where the crackle of the vinyl was his favorite soundtrack. Marcel had an incredible ability to find joy in the simplest of things, and those who knew him well understood that his legacy was not just the poems he left behind but the countless lives he touched along the way.
Marcel was a beacon of light in the lives of many, a man who could turn even the simplest of days into something special. He will be remembered not only for his beautiful words but for the way he made each of us feel a little more like home. His spirit will continue to inspire, his love to endure, and his laughter to echo in the hearts of all who knew him.
