Masaru Urata
January 1, 1926 - March 8, 2026 (Age 100)
Masaru Urata, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, at the remarkable age of 100. Born on June 20, 1925, in Tamana, Masaru lived a life defined by quiet dedication, warm humor, and an unshakable love for his family and community.
Those who knew Masaru remember him as a man of gentle strength and endless patience. Whether he was sharing stories from his youth, tending to his beloved garden, or teaching his grandchildren how to play shogi, he brought a sense of calm and joy to every room he entered. His laughter was infectious, and his wisdom—often delivered with a twinkle in his eye—was cherished by all who sought his counsel.
Masaru's career in public service reflected his deep commitment to his fellow citizens. As a member of the Liberal Democratic Party, he served in the House of Councillors from 1983 to 1989 and again from 1992 to 1998, advocating for policies that uplifted his community. Yet, despite his political achievements, he never let his work overshadow the simple pleasures that brought him the most happiness: a perfectly brewed cup of green tea, the changing seasons in his garden, and the sound of his family's laughter around the dinner table.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 72 years, Akiko, their three children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life. Masaru's legacy lives on in the values he instilled—kindness, humility, and the importance of showing up for those you love. Though we mourn his passing, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will forever bloom in the hearts of those he touched. Rest well, dear Masaru. You were, and always will be, deeply loved.
