Matt Davidson (ice hockey)|Matt Davidson

January 1, 1978 - April 30, 2026 (Age 48)

It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to Matt. Just thinking about him brings a smile to my face, and honestly, a little bit of disbelief. Born on January 1st, 1978, Matt lived life full-throttle, always with a mischievous glint in his eye and a quick joke ready to go. He wasn’t one for stuffiness, that’s for sure. I remember one Christmas, he decided the best gift for his mom wasn’t something *from* the store, but a meticulously built (and slightly wobbly) birdhouse he’d made himself. It wasn’t perfect, but it was *him* – thoughtful, a little rough around the edges, and made with so much love. Hockey was always Matt’s first love. He chased that dream relentlessly, and we were all so incredibly proud when he made it to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Those 56 games weren’t just numbers to him; they were the culmination of years of dedication, early morning practices, and a whole lot of grit. Even after his time in the NHL, he kept playing, taking his talent and passion all over the American and European leagues. But it wasn’t just about the game for Matt. It was about the camaraderie, the travel, the stories he’d bring home. He loved sharing those adventures, always making them sound bigger and more exciting than they probably were! Beyond the rink, Matt was a devoted son, brother, and friend. He cherished his family, and always made time for them, no matter how demanding his schedule. He had this incredible ability to make everyone feel seen and valued. He’d remember the smallest details about your life, and always knew how to offer a kind word or a helping hand. He wasn’t afraid to be silly, to laugh loudly, or to just *be* present. He collected friends easily, and those friendships meant the world to him. Matt left us on April 30th, 2026, and the world feels a little quieter without his booming laugh. He packed a lifetime of living into his years, and touched so many hearts along the way. He’ll be deeply missed, but never forgotten. We’ll carry his spirit of adventure, his unwavering kindness, and his love of the game with us always.
