Matt Salter
January 1, 1977 - March 8, 2026 (Age 49)
It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to Matt Salter. Born on January 1st, 1977, he always felt like a bit of a New Year’s promise kept – full of energy, potential, and a mischievous glint in his eye. I met Matt years ago, and from the start, he just had this way of making everyone around him feel instantly comfortable, like you’d known him forever. He wasn’t one for small talk; he’d dive right into a story, usually involving some slightly-too-risky adventure from his rugby days, and you’d be hooked. He had this booming laugh that could fill a room, and honestly, I think half the fun was watching *him* tell the story, the way his face would light up.
Matt lived life full throttle, and that passion really shone through in everything he did. Of course, many will remember him for his incredible career – first with Bristol, then the London Broncos. He was a force on the pitch, a flanker or second row who played with a grit and determination that was inspiring to watch. But rugby wasn’t just a job for Matt, it was a brotherhood. He spoke so fondly of his teammates, the camaraderie, and the battles fought alongside them. Even after he hung up his boots, he remained a huge supporter, always eager to catch a game and share his insights. Beyond the sport, he loved nothing more than a good book, a proper cup of tea, and spending time with his family. He absolutely adored his parents and always spoke with such pride about them.
He had a knack for connecting with people, for seeing the good in everyone. He wasn’t afraid to offer a helping hand, a listening ear, or just a bit of honest advice. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and genuine connection. So many people have already shared stories about how Matt impacted their lives, whether it was a pep talk during a tough time, a shared laugh over something silly, or simply his unwavering support. He had a way of making you feel like *you* could conquer anything.
Matt passed away on March 8th, 2026, and the world feels a little quieter without his laughter. He was, quite simply, a wonderful man, a loving son, a loyal friend, and someone who truly lived life to the fullest. We’ll miss him terribly, but the memories – and there are so many good ones – will stay with us always.
