May Angeli
January 1, 1938 - April 15, 2026 (Age 88)
It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to May Angeli. Born on January 1st, 1938, she left us peacefully on April 15th, 2026, leaving behind a world a little less colorful and a whole lot quieter. May wasn’t just a person; she was a force of nature, a whirlwind of creativity and kindness wrapped in a mischievous smile. I’ll always remember her laughter – a bright, tinkling sound that could fill a room and chase away any gloom. She had this incredible ability to find beauty in the everyday, whether it was the way the light hit a dusty windowsill or the quirky expression on a stranger’s face. That’s what fueled her art, really.
For decades, May poured her heart and soul into her work as a French artist and author, living and creating in the vibrant heart of Paris. She was a graduate of the École nationale supérieure des arts appliqués et des métiers d'art, and her talent shone through in everything she touched. I was so proud of her collaboration with Sylvie Baussier on "Petite histoire des langues," and the Prix Octogne she received for it – a testament to her skill and dedication. But for May, the awards weren’t the point. It was the joy of creating, of bringing stories and images to life, that truly mattered. She loved nothing more than losing herself in her studio, surrounded by paints and paper, a cup of strong coffee by her side.
Family was everything to May. She cherished her nieces and nephews, regaling them with fantastical stories and encouraging their own artistic pursuits. She was the aunt who always had a listening ear, a warm hug, and a piece of advice delivered with gentle wisdom. Her love was a constant, a comforting presence in all our lives. She held onto traditions with a fierce loyalty, always making sure there was enough food, laughter, and good conversation at every gathering.
May touched so many lives with her generosity, her wit, and her unwavering belief in the power of art. She inspired countless young artists to pursue their dreams and reminded us all to appreciate the simple joys in life. We’ll miss her terribly – her vibrant spirit, her infectious laugh, and the way she made the world a more beautiful place. May you rest in peace, dear May. You will forever be in our hearts.
