It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mike Westbrook, born January 1st, 1936, and peacefully departed this life on April 12th, 2026. Mike wasn’t just a jazz musician; he was a vibrant spirit, a mischievous twinkle in his eye, and a truly remarkable man who touched the lives of so many. I have so many cherished memories of him – like the time he tried (and spectacularly failed!) to teach me how to play the piano, resulting in a cascade of sheet music and a good-natured chuckle from him that I’ll never forget. He had a way of making everyone feel seen, heard and valued, even when he was teasing you mercilessly. He possessed a rare gift for finding joy in the simplest things, from a perfectly brewed cup of tea to a beautiful sunset. Mike's life was a symphony of passion, particularly for jazz. As a pianist and composer, he poured his soul into his music, creating pieces that were both intellectually stimulating and deeply moving. But beyond his professional accomplishments, Mike was a devoted husband to Kate, a true artistic partnership that blossomed over decades. They shared a love for music, art, and a life lived fully. He was a kind and generous man, always ready with a helping hand or a listening ear. He had a knack for connecting with people from all walks of life, and his warmth and humor will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He was a father, a brother, an uncle, and a dear friend to so many. But Mike wasn’t just about his musical talents; he was about the person he was. He had a sharp wit, a playful spirit, and an unwavering loyalty to those he loved. He embraced life with open arms and a curious mind, always eager to learn and explore new experiences.
