Mohamed Hansal

January 1, 1948 - March 11, 2026 (Age 78)

Mohamed Hansal, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on November 6, 1947, Mohamed lived a life marked by integrity, fairness, and a deep love for his family and community. To those who knew him best, Mohamed was more than just a football referee—he was a pillar of strength and a source of endless wisdom. His children remember him as a patient teacher who would spend hours in the backyard, teaching them the fundamentals of the beautiful game he loved so much. "He had this incredible way of making everyone feel important," his daughter Amina recalls. "Whether he was officiating a World Cup match or helping a neighbor fix their fence, he gave everything his full attention and care." Mohamed's career as a referee took him to great heights, including officiating at the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy—a moment of immense pride for our entire family. But what truly defined him wasn't the accolades or the recognition; it was his unwavering commitment to fairness and his ability to remain calm under pressure. These qualities made him not just an excellent referee, but an exceptional husband, father, and friend. In retirement, Mohamed found joy in the simple pleasures of life: tending to his garden, sharing stories with his grandchildren, and gathering with friends for endless rounds of tea and conversation. His laughter was infectious, his advice invaluable, and his presence a comfort to all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Fatima, their three children, and five grandchildren, who will forever cherish his memory and the values he instilled in them. Mohamed was laid to rest on March 8, 2026, at Aïn El-Beïda Cemetery in Oran, surrounded by family and friends who came to pay their respects to a man who touched so many lives. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of kindness, integrity, and love will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
