Moulana Abdullah Tari
January 1, 1940 - March 9, 2026 (Age 86)
With the heaviest of hearts, we say goodbye to our beloved Moulana Abdullah Tari, our Baba, our anchor. To the world, he was a stalwart scholar and a fearless voice for justice, a man whose quiet dignity spoke volumes in the most turbulent of times. But to us, he was first and foremost the gentle soul who’d sit on the veranda at dusk, a cup of chai in hand, his eyes twinkling as he told stories that wove together history, faith, and the simple, profound wisdom of a life lived with purpose. We’ll forever hear the sound of his pen scratching across paper late into the night, not drafting a political statement, but composing a poem for a grandchild’s birthday or a note of condolence for a neighbour—his activism was always rooted in a boundless love for people.
Baba’s world was built on relationships. He was the heart of our family, a husband whose love for Ammi was a daily testament to partnership and respect, a father who taught us that strength and kindness are not opposites, and a grandfather whose lap was the safest place on earth. His passions were the quiet ones: the meticulous care of his rose garden, where each bloom was a lesson in patience; the deep, resonant recitation of the Quran that filled our home with peace; and the endless cups of tea shared with visitors, where every stranger was a friend he hadn’t met yet. His joy was found in a grandchild’s laughter, in a perfectly brewed cup of tea, in the shared silence of understanding with a fellow seeker of truth.
The impact he had on others stretches far beyond any political gathering or conference hall. He taught us that true courage is a quiet thing—the courage to be compassionate in the face of hardship, to remain steadfast in principle without hardening one’s heart, to serve without ever seeking the spotlight. He showed a generation that one could be deeply rooted in faith and fiercely committed to the people’s cause, all with an unwavering grace. He didn’t just speak about dignity; he embodied it. As we let him go, we take comfort in knowing his legacy is not in a title or a position, but in the countless lives he touched, the values he instilled, and the immense, loving vacuum
