Moulana Abdullah Tari

January 1, 1940 - March 11, 2026 (Age 86)

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Moulana Abdullah Tari, who left us on March 11, 2026, at the age of 86. To those who knew him, Moulana Tari was more than just a respected Islamic scholar and political activist—he was a gentle soul with a warm smile and an open heart. Whether he was teaching at the local madrasa, offering guidance to those in need, or simply sharing a cup of tea with friends, he had a way of making everyone feel valued and heard. Moulana Tari's passion for knowledge was matched only by his devotion to his family. He and his wife, Ayesha, shared a beautiful partnership of 58 years, raising three children—Fatima, Ahmed, and Zainab—who inherited his compassion and integrity. His grandchildren fondly remember how he would tell them stories from Islamic history, his eyes twinkling as he brought the past to life. "Grandpa's stories always had a lesson," his granddaughter Sara recalls, "but he made them so interesting that we didn't even realize we were learning." Beyond his family, Moulana Tari touched countless lives through his work with the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party and the All Parties Hurriyat Conference. While he took his political responsibilities seriously, he never let them overshadow his humanity. Colleagues remember him as someone who could find common ground even in the most heated discussions, always advocating for peace and understanding. "He had this remarkable ability to see the good in everyone," a longtime friend shared. "Even when we disagreed, he treated people with respect." In his quieter moments, Moulana Tari found joy in tending to his garden, where he grew the most beautiful roses in the neighborhood. He believed that caring for plants was a form of prayer, and he often said that watching something grow was a reminder of life's blessings. His garden became a gathering place for the community, where he would host small iftar gatherings during Ramadan, welcoming neighbors of all faiths to break bread together. Though we mourn his passing, we find comfort in knowing that Moulana Tari's legacy of kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith will live on through all those whose lives he touched. As he would often say, quoting his favorite poet: "The fragrance of a rose remains in the hand that gives it." And oh, how sweetly he gave.
