Nev MacEwan
January 1, 1935 - March 15, 2026 (Age 91)
It is with hearts both heavy and full of gratitude that we say goodbye to a true gentleman, Nev MacEwan. To the world, he was a formidable All Black, a lock and number eight who wore the silver fern with pride in 52 games, including 20 Tests between 1956 and 1962. But to those of us who loved him, Nev was so much more than a rugby legend. He was the man you’d find on a Saturday morning, meticulously mowing his lawn in his well-worn All Blacks cap, a quiet smile on his face as he contemplated the perfect line of grass. He carried the strength and discipline of the scrum into everyday life, but it was his gentle humility and that twinkle in his eye that truly defined him. He never boasted of his tries; he’d just as soon talk about your garden, your kids, or the latest book he’d read.
At the centre of Nev’s universe was his family. He was a devoted husband to his beloved Margaret
