Nick Savva

January 1, 1935 - April 6, 2026 (Age 91)

Nick Savva was the kind of man who made everyone feel like they'd known him forever. Born in Cyprus in 1935, he brought that Mediterranean warmth with him when he arrived in Britain, and it never left him. Quick with a laugh, always ready with a story from the old country, Nick had a way of making even the quietest room feel lively. He was fiercely proud of his heritage, his family, and his dogs—in that order, he'd joke, though those who knew him understood the truth: they were all intertwined in his heart. His life revolved around two great loves: his wonderful wife Natalie, who he was blessed to share over 50 years with, and the greyhounds that were his passion. Together, Nick and Natalie built something remarkable. Their kennels weren't just a business—they were a home where generations of beautiful dogs were raised with extraordinary care and devotion. Nick had an instinctive understanding of these animals that seemed almost magical. He could look at a young dog and see its potential, nurturing it with patience and skill that came from decades of experience. Four English Greyhound Derby wins tell only part of the story of his success; what matters more is that he was regarded as Britain's most successful breeder, a title earned through hard work, dedication, and a genuine love for every dog that passed through his hands. But Nick was so much more than his achievements. He was a devoted father and grandfather who never missed a family gathering, always eager to hear about everyone's news over a strong cup of tea. He had strong opinions about football, better opinions about food, and the best stories about growing up in Cyprus that we never tired of hearing. His garden was his sanctuary, his cooking was legendary, and his laughter was infectious. He had a way of making everyone around him feel special—whether they were family, friends, or the dogs who slept peacefully by his feet. The gap left by Nick's passing cannot be filled, but his legacy lives on in every greyhound that carries his breeding, in the family he cherished, and in everyone whose life he touched. He lived life on his own terms, with integrity, humor, and an open heart. We miss him terribly, but we are so grateful for every moment we had. Sleep well, Nick—your're finally at rest, old friend.
