Oleh Avdieiev

January 1, 1974 - April 3, 2026 (Age 52)

Oleh Avdieiev, our beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, at the age of 52. Born on April 7, 1973, Oleh lived a life filled with passion, determination, and love. He was a man who embraced every moment, whether he was racing down icy tracks or spending quiet evenings with his family. Oleh's journey as a luge athlete was nothing short of remarkable. Competing in the 1998 and 2002 Winter Olympics, he represented Ukraine with pride and courage. His dedication to the sport was matched only by his love for his family. Oleh often shared stories of his Olympic experiences with a twinkle in his eye, but he was equally proud of the life he built with his wife, Olena, and their two children, Andriy and Yana. He was a devoted father who taught his children the values of hard work, perseverance, and kindness. His laughter filled their home, and his wisdom guided them through life's challenges. Beyond his athletic achievements, Oleh was a man of many talents and interests. He had a deep love for music and could often be found playing the guitar, filling the room with melodies that brought joy to everyone around him. He was also an avid gardener, finding peace and fulfillment in tending to his flowers and vegetables. Oleh's generosity knew no bounds; he was always ready to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors, whether it was fixing a leaky faucet or offering a listening ear. Oleh's legacy is one of love, resilience, and unwavering dedication to those he held dear. He touched the lives of so many with his warmth, humor, and kindness. His family and friends will forever cherish the memories of his infectious smile, his thoughtful advice, and his ability to make everyone feel special. Oleh's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his love will continue to guide us through the days ahead. Oleh is survived by his loving wife, Olena; his children, Andriy and Yana; his siblings, Iryna and Volodymyr; and a wide circle of extended family and friends. A memorial service will be held on April 10, 2026, at St. Michael's Cathedral in Lviv, where family and friends will gather to celebrate his remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Ukrainian Olympic Committee in Oleh's honor.
