Piero Dotti
January 1, 1940 - April 23, 2026 (Age 86)
It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to Piero. Eighty-six years just didn’t seem like enough time with a man who lived life so fully, so vibrantly. Born on January 1st, 1940, Piero always said starting the year with him meant good luck – and honestly, being around him *felt* lucky. He had this incredible warmth, a booming laugh that could fill a room, and a twinkle in his eye that hinted at a mischievous spirit. I remember as a kid, he’d always have a little sweet tucked away in his pocket just for me, and he’d tell the most fantastical stories, always making me the hero. He wasn’t just a grandfather, he was an adventure waiting to happen.
Piero’s passion for football was legendary. He lived and breathed the game, and to see him play – first with Messina, then Lazio, and finally Mirandolese – was something special. He wasn’t just a defender; he was a strategist, a leader, and a fiercely loyal teammate. Even after he hung up his boots, football remained a huge part of his life. He’d spend hours analyzing matches with my dad, debating tactics and celebrating every goal like he was still on the pitch. But beyond the sport, he loved tending to his garden, growing the most beautiful tomatoes you’ve ever seen, and sharing the bounty with everyone he knew. He found joy in the simple things, and he taught us all to do the same.
He was the heart of our family. A devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud nonno. He and his wife, Elena, were inseparable, a true partnership built on love, laughter, and a shared life. He always put his family first, offering unwavering support and encouragement. He beamed with pride watching his children and grandchildren grow, and he always had time for a chat, a piece of advice, or just a comforting hug. He had a knack for making everyone feel seen and valued, and his kindness touched so many lives.
Piero leaves behind a legacy of love, passion, and a life well-lived. He’ll be deeply missed by Elena, his children, his grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we’ll cherish the memories and the lessons he taught us. He may be gone, but the warmth of his spirit will stay with us always. Rest in peace, Piero. We love you.
