It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to Piero. Eighty-six years just didn’t seem like enough time with a man who lived life so fully, so vibrantly. Born on January 1st, 1940, Piero always said starting the year with him meant good luck – and honestly, being around him *felt* lucky. He had this incredible warmth, a booming laugh that could fill a room, and a twinkle in his eye that hinted at a mischievous spirit. I remember as a kid, he’d always have a little sweet tucked away in his pocket just for me, and he’d tell the most outrageous stories, always with a perfectly straight face. You never quite knew if they were true, but they were always entertaining! Piero’s passion for football was legendary. He wasn’t just a player – he *lived* the game, first with Messina, then Lazio, and finally Mirandolese. He’d talk for hours about the thrill of the match, the camaraderie of the team, and the roar of the crowd. Even after he hung up his boots, he remained a devoted fan, always ready to analyze a game or share his wisdom. But beyond football, he loved tending to his garden, creating the most beautiful tomatoes and peppers you’ve ever seen. He’d proudly share the fruits of his labor with everyone, insisting a little olive oil and a sprinkle of salt were the secrets to their amazing flavor. More than anything, Piero was a family man. He adored his wife, Elena, and their love was a beautiful thing to witness – a quiet, enduring partnership built on respect and affection. He passed away peacefully on April 23rd, 2026, and while our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing he’s finally at rest.
