Ronald Eddy
January 1, 1932 - April 6, 2026 (Age 94)
Ronald āRonā Eddy, born June 21, 1931, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, surrounded by family who loved him dearly. He was a true pillar of the Brant community, first as a compassionate Liberal MPP for BrantāHaldimand from 1992 to 1995, and later as mayor of the County of Brant for an inspiring nineteen years. His dedication to public service was matched only by his devotion to his wife, children, and grandchildren, who were his greatest pride.
Ron had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel heard. I remember the first time I met him at a town hall meetingāhe welcomed me with a firm handshake, a warm smile, and a question about my own hopes for the community. He listened. He listened for long hours, because he believed that good leadership starts with listening. Outside the council chambers, he was a man of simple pleasures: a Sunday morning fishing trip on the Grand River, a Sunday evening with a cappuccino and a crossword puzzle, or a quiet afternoon in his workshop, crafting wooden birdhouses for local wildlife. Those birdhouses, with their crooked wings and bright paint, were his way of leaving a small, lasting gift for the world.
Family was the center of Ronās life. He and his wife, Margaret, shared 58 years of partnership, always supporting each otherās dreams. Their love was the kind that makes you feel safe and cherished. He was a proud father to three children, each of whom carried forward his legacy of kindness, integrity, and a willingness to help others. And when his grandchildren came to visit, Ron transformed the house into a playground of stories and laughter, always ready with a new joke or a hand to hold when they were learning to ride a bike.
Ronās impact extended far beyond the borders of Brant. He championed small businesses, improved local infrastructure, and fought for better educational resources. But perhaps his greatest legacy is the countless lives he touched through his genuine compassion. He was the first to offer a helping hand during a snowstorm, the friend who listened when someone was grieving, and the mentor who encouraged young people to dream big. His steady presence in the community made Brant a kinder, more connected place. Wherever he went, he carried a quiet confidence that made people feel hopeful.
We will miss Ronās steady voice in the council chambers, his steady hand on a fishing rod, and his steady love for his family. He leaves behind a community that is forever better for having known him, a family that is forever grateful, and a legacy of service, love, and joy that will echo in Brant for generations. Rest in peace, Ronald. Your spirit will forever live in our hearts and in the stories we share.
