Ronnie Eldridge
January 1, 1931 - March 6, 2026 (Age 95)
It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to Ronnie Eldridge. Born Roslynn Myers on January 30, 1931, she left us peacefully on March 6, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of passion, grit, and a whole lot of laughter. Ronnie wasn’t just a name; it was a force of nature. I’ll always remember her booming voice, quick wit, and the way her eyes would sparkle when she was really engaged in a conversation – which was pretty much always. She had this incredible ability to make you feel like you were the most important person in the room, even if she was juggling a dozen things at once. I recall one time, she was rushing to a meeting, late as usual, but still managed to stop and give me the most wonderfully detailed explanation of the best way to prune roses. That was Ronnie – always generous with her time and knowledge, even when she was stretched thin.
Ronnie lived a life overflowing with purpose. Many of you will remember her years serving on the New York City Council (1989-2001), where she fought tirelessly for the communities she loved. But her dedication didn’t stop there. She was a businesswoman, an activist, and, most recently, the vibrant host of "Keeping Relevant" on CUNY TV. That show was a true reflection of her – smart, engaging, and always seeking to understand different perspectives. She adored connecting with people, hearing their stories, and sparking conversations that mattered. Family was everything to Ronnie, though. She cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her home was always open with a pot of something delicious simmering on the stove. She was the glue that held us all together, the one who knew how to celebrate the good times and offer comfort during the tough ones.
Beyond her public life, Ronnie had a quiet joy in simple things. She loved a good book, a lively debate, and tending to her garden – a riot of color and life, much like her personality. She was a fierce card player, a terrible dancer (but she didn’t care!), and always up for an adventure, whether it was exploring a new city or trying a new recipe. She taught us all the importance of staying curious, of speaking your mind, and of never losing your sense of humor, even when things got challenging.
Ronnie Eldridge made a difference. She touched so many lives with her kindness, her strength, and her unwavering belief in the power of community. We’ll miss her terribly, but we’ll carry her spirit with us, striving to live our lives with the same passion and purpose that she embodied. Rest easy, Ronnie. You were truly one of a kind.
